“Dr. Hart and Mark Werneke presented before an international conference of experts in the field of rehabilitation in Israel this past January (2010). The Maccabi Healthcare Services in Tel-Aviv, Israel, sponsored the conference that noted speakers from the United States (Dr. Hart, Dr. Powers, Mr. Werneke and Mr. Herbowy) and Briton (Dr. Lewis). Topics ranged from using an outcomes database to assist clinicians treating patients (Dr. Hart), describing rotator cuff tendinopathy and a new method of assessing the shoulder (Dr. Lewis), assessing movement dysfunction and lower extremity injury using a top down perspective (Dr. Powers), using a mechanical loading system to determine classification and outcomes of patients (Mr. Herbowy), to describing how to integrate the biopsychosocial model of assessment and management of patients with low back pain during routine practice (Mr. Werneke). The conference was well attended with over 450 rehabilitation clinicians and managers as well as representatives from the Israeli Health Ministry. The conference represents the interest  in the use of valid outcomes and advanced clinical techniques that the Maccabi management promotes for the purpose of better outcomes for their patients. Supported by an integrated electronic health record and electronic outcomes system (FOTO), the Maccabi system continues to demonstrate their international leadership in the efficient and effective management of patients receiving outpatient therapy.
