FOTO began implementation on 6/08/09 of four prospective data collection research projects using the seven FOTO paper and pencil short forms that received time-limited endorsement from the National Quality Forum (NQF) in 2008. This research project was designed following discussions with NQF and the first data have started to flow as of June 26th.
The measures were identified by NQF in a recent maintenance document from NQF as measures:
- 0422 Functional status change for patients with knee impairments
(submitted to NQF as NP-001-07)
- 0423 Functional status change for patients with hip impairments
(submitted to NQF as NP-002-07)
- 0424 Functional status change for patients with foot/ankle impairments
(submitted to NQF as NP-003-07)
- 0425 Functional status change for patients with lumbar impairments
(submitted to NQF as NP-004-07)
- 0426 Functional status change for patients with shoulder impairments
(submitted to NQF as NP-005-07)
- 0427 Functional status change for patients with elbow/wrist/hand impairments (submitted to NQF as NP-006-07)
- 0428 Functional status change for patients with general orthopedic impairments (submitted to NQF as NP-007-07)
The four research projects will assess measure test-retest reliability, burden to collect functional status data, feasibility of using the paper and pencil functional status outcomes surveys, and patient characteristics to those patients who refused to use the surveys.
A retrospective analysis of existing data collected using the short forms will progress this summer. The research is intended to satisfy NQF criteria and result in permanent endorsement of these measures.
